Public-housing-tenants-and-supporters-meeting-23-March-2019

JOIN THE STATEWIDE TENANTS & SUPPORTERS MEETING
SATURDAY 23 MARCH at 4pm
ALL SAINTS CHURCH NORTHCOTE, CNR HIGH ST AND WALKER ST
(Tram 86 stops right outside. Tea, coffee and biscuits available)

FIGHT the Andrews Labor Government’s continuing plans to privatise public housing in Victoria. They are demolishing 11 public housing estates around Melbourne and selling to private developers. Valuable public land is being lost. The number of bedrooms available to public tenants in Melbourne will decline. Much of what will be built will not be public housing, but community housing.
Residents are being relocated under duress to places away from their networks. The promises made to return them to their rebuilt estates are hollow as there will not be enough bedrooms. Residents will lose important tenancy rights if they are shifted to community housing agencies.
The meeting will cover:

  1. Tenants legal rights
  2. The evidence for why government can and must invest in public housing
  3. Why we need a strong tenants’ organisation
  4. What action can we take?

This meeting is supported by

  • Darebin Community Friends of Public Housing

  • Protect Abbotsford Street Estate
